This programme became the first to follow the grandeur of the American grain harvest. The programme follows Dale and Margie Starks, their nine MF760 combines and a temporary crew who work their way north for seven months of contract cutting. Good archive footage tells of the settling of the prairies, the cattle wars and the first short-stemmed wheat brought from Russia by the Mennonites. In Kansas we learn about the Ford trucks being used, the domestic arrangements and we then follow the crews as they work north to Montana and Saskatchewan. Tim Slessor tells a complete and captivating story with memorable aerial views and liberal use of 1970s music. Approximately 50 minutes.
